Back in October, when the Minnesota Gang came to San Diego for the GB Packers / SD Chargers game,
my brother announced he was having his 4th child. He asked me to be the child's godfather...and of
course I accepted the honor and responsibility. At that time, I thought I needed to plan a trip to San Diego in July '00
As time went on, I thought it would be nice to take some additional time to visit So. California.
This is where Tinker and Petey come in.
Pretty much anybody who knows me, knows that I adore my little doggies. Tinker is 10 yrs 9 mos old
and Petey is 10 yrs 2 mos old (as of July 1). I don't like to travel for extended periods of time,
because I do miss the dogs and it is hard on them as well. So I got the hairbrained idea that
we (all three of us) would take a couple of weeks off, head to San Diego for the baptism in the
Savage Beast (truck) and visit places along the way.
And....pretty much anybody who knows me well, knows that I tend to overdo things...well that trip
went from 2 weeks to 3 weeks to 4 weeks in a hurry. Plans to turn the 4 week sabbatical into an
interactive trip, where people could vote, via the internet, where we go and things we do, have a
big website documenting the interactive trip...well you get the picture.
It became too much...as usual, my eyes were bigger than I had time available (I think that I need
a staff of 10, just to help me out with my every whim and hairbrained scheme!).
Even the detailed trip
planning required more time than I had available. So, the month long trip became an exercise in
winging it. There were a few things I wanted to see...and one FIXED scheduled stop...San Diego
for the baptism. Other than that...camping and visiting family and friends in southern and northern California
were what the trip would be all about.
It was important to start the trip in Wauwatosa, at my parents house. That has always been a haven
for rest and a spot to recharge my batteries. Thanks, Dad and Mom!
It was important to have a catalyst for the trip. It takes a bit to get me to commit to something,
but when I do, it is 150%! So thanks, David and Dorothy, for having a baby to get us on the road
for a month!
Thanks to Seagate Technology in Bloomington, MN...for accommodating the time I needed for this
adventure!
Anyway...that is how the trip came to be and how it evolved into Tinker and Petey's Big Adventure.
I hope anyone who checks out the site, enjoys it. It was mainly a way for my family and friends
to keep tabs on me, Tinker and Petey while we're on the road. I'm sure the quality of the
site will improve as I get into the swing of documenting it with pictures and words.
