Tinker & Petey's Big Adventure
July 22
Destination: Tracy, CA
The Plan: Head into the city for some cheesy tourist photos, do some bridges, Chinatown, then head over to Tracy to visit with my buddy Tim Hallock
What we did: Got up in the morning, packed everything up, then Terry and I walked the dogs over to her favorite neighborhood coffeeshop for a bagel. Back to the house for a final goodbye and then it was time for the Road Warriors to hit the highway. Our plan was to head into San Francisco for a final tourist run at the city.

First stop, Chinatown. Found a 30 minute parking spot at the bottom of the hill, about 4 blocks away. Spent some time wandering in some cheesy tourist gift shops and some really neat Chinese art shops. The art shops have some really exquisite ivory and jade carvings. The prices are exquisite as well. Bought some bamboo back scratchers (one of my quests) and headed back to the truck.

Next it was off to find Lombard Street. The really steep and twisty and narrow road. We headed up Van Ness and found ourselves in a left turn lane (which was the wrong way) and decided that Lombard Street was not that important on this trip. We headed west to pick up Hwy 1 to go over the Golden Gate Bridge.

We made it across the Golden Gate and headed into the Marin Headlands in search of another picture of the Golden Gate Bridge, from the north side of the bridge. Found the secluded road Tom Tierney had told me about, grabbed some pictures and it was off to find Muir Woods.

Back into the mountains and twisty mountain roads. We made our way to Muir Woods to find out that dogs weren't allowed (we assumed because we didn't see any other dogs at all) in the park. So it was back up the mountain and over the bridge to San Francisco again. We did snap a picture of Muir Woods from the mountain road above the woods. Dang tourists...

Back in San Francisco...heading towards the Bay Bridge...we hooked up with Lombard Street again and decided that Lombard Street was that important on this trip. Mistake. We took another vote and decided to do the steep twisty road. So we went UP Lombard Street from the bottom. BIG MISTAKE.

Important San Francisco Sightseeing Tip: Never, ever go up Lombard Street from the bottom. 3 side roads feed into Lombard ahead of you and the trip up is SLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW. We were stuck in traffic for about 2 hrs before we hit the top of the hill. Get up the hill first, then turn onto Lombard.

Made it up the hill, thanks to 4WD Low. And did our tourist flyby of Lombard Street. Called Mom and Dad because we didn't have anything else to do while we were waiting. I miss the daily calls home to see what's up in Wauwatosa. Snapped a pic on the way up Lombard and then on the way down.

After Lombard Street, we made our way to the Bay Bridge to make our final exit from San Francisco. Then it was off to Tracy to visit my friend Tim Hallock and his family. The trip to Tracy was uneventful and we made it to Tim's house to find a neighborhood cookout/party going on. Tim has alot of nice friends in his neighborhood and we got to meet many of them. The party gang is shown in a picture below.

After the party, Tim, Robin and I stayed up late and got caught up. Then it was off to bed to dream about what our next day's adventure would be.
