Tinker & Petey's Big Adventure
July 15
Destination: Los Angeles...or maybe Lancaster
The Plan: A suprise!
What we did: I awoke at 6:30 A.M. still feeling tired. After a quick assessment...I closed my eyes and crashed for another 2 hours. So much for an early departure! But I am, afterall, travelling without a schedule!

I started packing and loading up the Savage Beast when Dave finally got up. He and Dorothy offered to take me out for breakfast...and off we went. Another chance to visit with family I don't get to spend much time with anymore. Worth every minute of the delay to our departure.

Finished loading...grabbed a quick shower and off the mighty Road Warriors were...to the vast concrete jungle of Los Angeles. Actually, our primary mission was to get to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. The trip to Simi Valley was uneventful...except for the repeated blaring of Jerry Jeff Walker's "LA Freeway".

I spent an emotional hour at the Reagan Library. I really needed a day...but even though it was a cool day, I wanted to make sure the doggies didn't overheat in the truck. I wasn't able to take many good pictures at the library, so you'll have to take my word for it, the library is a very special place. Apart from the memorabilia, the most emotional parts of the exhibits were the words, recordings and videos of President Reagan. I've heard and seen them all before...but to experience them at the library made them more special. President Reagan was an incredible man...much of the abuse, dismissals and jokes about him will be forgotten when objective historians record President Reagan as one of very greatest presidents and leaders the modern world has seen. It saddens me that the recognition and vindication will come later, not sooner. There are many who don't know the greatness of that man!

Next it was off to make a suprise stop. Unfortunately, the suprise will be more subtle than I had hoped for. I made a stop at the Vertel Corporate headquarters in Woodland Hills...I had hoped that I would get a picture of The Browndoggerz at Vertel...but I had to settle for the pictures below. Dang. Any Vertellians out there will be able to corroborate my stop from the pictures I've provided.

Next we were off to Santa Barbara to stay in a hotel...or so we thought.

Important California Travelling Tip: You MUST have reservations in advance to have any chance to stay in a hotel north of LA in the summer on the weekend. No reservations, no rooms.

We FINALLY found a Rest Area on US 101 between Camp Roberts and Bradley. So we pulled over to crash for the night. This was the first night where we had to crash in the truck...Good thing the passenger seat reclines...

And the techno-geek road warrior with all of his mobile gadgetry was able to download the pictures from the digital camera and prepare the pages to be uploaded on Sunday! And then we all crashed for the evening.
