| Tinker & Petey's Big Adventure |
| July 14 |
| Destination: | Dog Beach and Temecula, CA |
| The Plan: | Go to Dog Beach, Take Brown's out to eat, Hang at the mall with Gavin and Garret, meet up with Annette Lamers at the Temecula Ramada Inn |
| What we did: | Got up early and put an additional hard drive into
David's computer. Next, Gavin, Garret and I were off to hang out at the mall. Walked around and stopped at all of the Skate Shops (skateboarding). It is amazing how big and high tech skateboarding is nowadays. Also, making a big comeback are 2 wheeled scooters. Gavin and Garret both test drove new high-tech scooters at each of the shops. It was fun hanging out with them. Next we were off to get some lunch. We drove around for about an hour looking for an In-N-Out Burger in Escondido...didn't find one. Settled for a second choice at Rally's. There are alot of small burger restaurants out here. We raced home to change and pickup the dogs for our second Dog Beach adventure! Amazingly, we found Dog Beach right away. So for anyone reading this that needs to get there: South on 5. Take Rosecrans/Hwy 209 exit south. Take a right on Nimitz and go to Voltaire. Take a left on Voltaire. That takes you right there! Once again...Dog Heaven...except... Just as there are obnoxious people, there are obnoxious dogs. First a smaller dog would not let Tinker alone. Followed us around for 5 minutes until the owner realized I was about to punt the pooch out to sea. She grabbed the dog and hauled it back to the sand. Next a larger dog wouldn't let either Tinker or Petey alone. The dog, of course, wouldn't listen to it's owner either. Now for all of you who think my dogs don't listen. You should've seen this one. I picked up my doggies and then the big dog started jumping up on me all the while the owner is yelling at the dog from the dry sand. The owner wouldn't even come out to get the dog. Sheesh. So I dragged the dog over to the owner. She held the dog by the collar for a bit...then let the dog go. Nice move... There was a raging debate going on in my head as to whether the dog or the owner should be punted out to sea, or both. Finally they moved on to terrorize other dogs...fighting with some other big dogs. I don't think this pair were scoring any points with the beach crowd that day. Dog Beach is a wonderful place, even with today's hassles. Tinker and Petey had fun in the water. The tide was out today, so there was more shallow water so you could go a further distance into the ocean. The dogs could go out further and romp in the shallow water. Gavin and Garret had fun crashing around in the waves and playing in the wet sand. Next we raced home...yeah, right. Got caught in a good ol' fashioned Southern California traffic jam. I was taking Dave and family out to eat at Claim Jumpers, a fun restaurant. Had a great meal and got home around 9:30 P.M. Unfortunately, it was too late to hook up with Annette and her family. They were in Temecula at the Ramada Inn, for a charity golf tournament sponsored by Target. It is always fun to do things with the Jacobs clan...so I was mildly bummed...but we had an awesome last day in San Diego. Close, in Southern California terms is anything less than 2 hours away. We did well today with as much driving as we had to do. Gave the dogs a bath to close out the night. Squeaky clean dogs...all ready to start a new adventure tomorrow! |
