Tinker & Petey's Big Adventure
July 13
Destination: Encinitas, CA
The Plan: Hang out with T...go to Fry's.
What we did: Got up! Hey Heimer...I had to get up!

Relaxed a bit in the morning with the doggies...and then I headed over to T's house for another fun filled day in Southern California!

First stop was Fry's Electronics. This store is the consummate geek-out store with anything and everything a geeky person could want such as computer stuff, electronics parts, test equipment, etc. Fry's also carries consumer electronics, appliances, etc. just like Best Buy Co. It also carries more cool things like telescopes, night vision equipment, satellite communications equipment, etc. The original Fry's was up in Silicon Valley and has been written about in various publications.

Next it was off to lunch at In-n-Out Burger...a California chain of hamburger joints. The food is pretty good...not "fast food", not "slow food" but "medium food". You have to wait a little while for them to make your order...but it is worth the "medium" wait. In the same mall area, we ran into the restaurant where the Heaven's Gate cultists had their final meal before they all committed suicide. They all ordered chicken pot pies and ice tea at Marie Callenders. A dubious honor for that restaurant. It turns out that T's house is somewhere near the Heaven's Gate house where it all happened. I'm watching Tom very closely for any sign of cult activity!

We then spent some time driving up the cost to Oceanside. There is a pier out into the ocean there. We hung out and I did the tourist thing and took some pictures. I have a pic of a surfer on a boogie board riding in a small wave. It is pretty neat in Oceanside...Tom and Diane lived there before moving to Encinitas.

The house from a scene in the movie Top Gun is located in Oceanside. The scene is where Tom Cruise is late for a dinner with Kelly McGillis after playing volleyball with the boys on the beach. The house where McGillis's character lives is shown in a pic below. I'll have to watch MY FAVORITE MOVIE to verify that it is the house. I trust Tom...but I did camp in Missouri for a night.

On the way back, we passed the collectibles store again. I tried my best, once again, to get T to buy that Sinclair dinosaur. A picture of the beast is shown below. If you think that he should buy the dinosaur, you should email him at tierney@home.com. I think that he should buy it, don't you? If you email him...make sure you let him know who you are and how you got his email address!

Back to T's house for a while...then off to dinner. Tom and Diane took me out to eat at a great roadside restaurant....called....Roadside Restaurant. Great food...and of course, great company! Thanks again, Tom and Diane.

Back to T's house again...for a post-dinner homemade pina colada...thanks Diane...some more chat then back to the doggies at my brother's house. As usual...they were very happy to see me, as I was to see them.

After updating the site...some needed crash time for the big day (our last in SD) tomorrow.
