| Destination: | Didn't matter, as long as we got to the Grand Canyon! |
| The Plan: | See Carlsbad Caverns. Go north and west to get close to the Grand Canyon to set us up for the next day! |
| What we did: | Got up at the crack of dawn...Broke camp and drove down to Carlsbad
Caverns. Got there early...an hour before the Kennel Services people were there. Dogs not allowed
in the caves... So we took a vote. I lost...the dogs won. (2 to 1, democracy has its drawbacks
sometimes) and we nixed the caves. Had a lot of driving to do, so north and west we went.
Drove through Roswell, NM...looked at a property to buy (pictures below)...Drove through downtown and ALMOST stopped at the Alien Museum and Research Center. (Vote 3-0 to not stop, not enough time) Kept driving and adjusting the plan...Decided to stay over in Holbrook, AZ. We arrived at Holbrook early enough to change the plans. Had enough time to take in the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. We were still going to stay in Holbrook...but had enough time to head over to Flagstaff. We stopped at the exit where the Meteor Crater National Monument is...of course the site has limited hours. So back on the road to Flagstaff. Ultimately decided to stay in a hotel...to get the web site updated...and get a good rest for the continuing adventure tomorrow at the Grand Canyon. |
