| The Plan: | Visit the BassPro Shops Outdoor World and Fantastic Caverns in Springfield, MO (if they let the dogs visit the caverns, that is!) |
| What we did: |
Got up early...packed up the campsite...Also spent some time on
optimizing packing for the rest of the trip. The people who run the Lebanon KOA were awefully nice. However, that said, tent camping 70 yards from an Interstate highway is kind of like living next to I35W (which I did for 7 years) without the soundproof house. I didn't sleep too well because of the constant traffic passing nearby. Next, we were off to Springfield, MO to visit BassPro Outdoor World. It is the biggest outdoor recreation store / museum I've ever seen (don't know yet how it compares to Cabellas). Saw a few stuffed animals that must be native to Missouri (I assume!)...An adult elephant and adult giraffe. Next it was off to Fantastic Caverns. I've always been into caves...and here was a chance to visit a real cave! Dogs were allowed, so off we were on a new adventure. The caves were pretty cool. We drove through the caverns and got an interesting tour. It turns out that the caves have alot of history. There was a stage set up there, and many country music stars performed there. There was a regular radio show produced there as well. I've got a couple of pictures of some of the formations below. Back on the road...to Ft. Worth, TX. Green Oaks Hotel. I lived there for 3 months, back when I was working for Control Data Corp. The drive was uneventful...pulled into the hotel around 9:15 and while checking in, discovered that I had forgot my wallet back in Wauwatosa...Panic set in until I realized where I left it. Frantic calls to my parents confirmed the location of the missing wallet. Once again, we cashed it in early. |
