Tinker & Petey's Big Adventure
July 3
Destination: Somewhere near Springfield, Missouri
The Plan: Drive like crazy and find a campground near Springfield, Missouri
(how's that for exciting!)
What we did: Well...we did drive like crazy. Missed the turn where I39 splits with I90 near Rockford, IL. Was talking to the dogs or something. I usually don't miss the road signs like that.

Important Travelling Tip: Don't miss your turn, especially if you are in Illinois and on a toll road.

We spent about 30 minutes dinking around with the back roads of IL trying to make our way back to I39. I started to get frustrated...then realized...Hey! I don't have anyplace to be today!

Another Important Travelling Tip: Don't travel on a schedule (yeah, right!). If the trip takes an unexpected turn, you won't get frustrated.

The rest of the drive was uneventful (except for the torrential downpour around Rolla, MO, near where we were going to camp). And a little sightseeing in St. Louis (Gateway Arch, see picture below). We pulled in to the Lebanon, MO Kampgrounds of America (KOA) around 8:30, just as dusk hit. Took about a half hour to get all set up for the evening...including getting ready for a late dinner.

Dinner consisted of grilled ham & cheese, potato salad and nectarines. Mom...you're right...the small nectarines are the tastiest! The grilled sandwiches were made in "tonka toasters". Probably the most awesome camp cooking utensil ever invented...Very tasty!

After dinner, we cashed it in early.
